Blockchain is the beating heart of cryptocurrency — the invisible engine that keeps Bitcoin, Ethereum, and thousands of other digital coins running. But what exactly is it, and how does it work?
Imagine a notebook that everyone in the world can see, but no one can erase. Every time someone makes a transaction, it’s written in this notebook. Once written, it stays there forever. That notebook is the blockchain — a shared digital ledger spread across thousands of computers.
Here’s the story of how it works:
1. Transactions Begin
Someone sends cryptocurrency to another person. Instead of a bank recording it, the transaction is broadcast to a network of computers.

But blockchain isn’t perfect. It can be slow, energy‑hungry, and hard to scale. Developers are working on solutions like proof of stake and layer 2 networks to make it faster and greener.
